Amenorhea (Absence of menses)

The absence of menses can be classified as primary and secondary. In the former case the menses do not start till the age of 16 in women. In the latter case the menses suddenly stop after commencement. Causes are attributed to both the mind and the body. The pituitary which is the master gland of the body releases "hormone stimulating hormones" like "Growth hormone releasing hormone, Stimulating Hormone etc. The hypothalamus picks signals from these hormone-releasing hormones and then releases the hormones. The point is that the hypothalamus can be affected by factors like stress, emotions etc. and hence the release of hormones responsible for menses might get affected. On the basis of the cause and symptoms of the disease conditions, the treatment is decided.
